PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a novel-structured fiber with an added rare earth element, and highly efficient fiber laser and fiber amplifier configured by using the fiber.SOLUTION : A fiber includes : a core glass of a high refractive index at a center part thereof, which is formed of SiO-based glass containing a rare earth element; a cladding of a low refractive index arranged around the outer periphery of the core glass, which is formed of SiO-based glass not containing the rare earth element; an air gap covering a large portion of the outer periphery of the cladding; SiOglass with added fluorine (F) arranged around the outer periphery of the air gap such that the SiOglass with added F covers the cladding while being in contact with the outer periphery of the cladding on at least three points; and SiO-based glass without added F arranged around the outer periphery of the SiOglass with added F. |
