PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide : a rare earth-Mg-Ca-Ni based hydrogen storage alloy that can increase discharge capacity and can improve a cycle life characteristic; an electrode containing the alloy; and an electrical storage element comprising the electrode.
SOLUTION : The present invention provides, e.g., a hydrogen storage alloy whose chemical composition is represented by the general formula M1vCaxMgyNizM2w, where M1 is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of rare earth elements including Y, M2 is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Co, Al, Mn and Si. The general formula satisfies 0.08≤x/(v+x+y)≤0.25 and 0.97≤z/(z+w)≤1.00 and, if v+x+y=1, then satisfies x+y-{(5-z)/6}>0.
