The present invention relates to a method for the recovery of rare earths from rare earths-containing compositions such as (waste) [...] -magnet or fluorescent lamps as rare earths-fluorides or rare earths-oxalates by means solid chlorination with the following process steps : a) crushing the rare earths-containing compositions under a protective gas atmosphere to a particle size in the range of 50 to 400 µm to crushed rare earths-containing compositions, b) addition of solid ammonium chloride in a fold 2bis 4-mass ratio, based on the mass of the rare earths-containing compositions, to the crushed rare earths-containing compositions, c) chlorinating the 200-800 °C chlorinatable metals to metal chlorides at a temperature in the range of over a period of 1 to 5h, d) adding an acid solution to the metal chlorides up to a pH value in the range from 1 to 4, 5, are suspended solid constituents being, e) separating the solution of the solid constituents, f) adding a precipitating agent to the separated solution, wherein a rare earth-containing precipitate precipitates, g) separation of the rare earth-containing precipitate. |
