The invention relates to nanodiamonds covered with a coordination compound of rare earth metals in the form of individual particles or in an aggregate form. The invention is characterized in that the coordination compound contains one or more organic ligands, and at least one ligand of the coordination compound is covalently bound to a surface group bonded to the surface of the nanodiamond. The nanodiamonds according to the invention are suitable for producing luminescent molded bodies or layers. In order to obtain molded bodies, small quantities of nanodiamonds can be introduced into a matrix of the precursor of an organic polymer for example, and the polymer is then cured. In this manner, even layers can be obtained. Alternatively, layers made of the pure nanodiamond material can be deposited onto a matrix and optionally coated with a protective layer or a functional layer. |
