A nickel hydrogen rechargeable battery has a positive electrode (24) and a negative electrode (26). The positive electrode (24) includes positive-electrode active material made of nickel hydrogen particles (36) in which magnesium is dissolved, and the negative electrode (26) includes rare earth-Mg-Ni-based hydrogen storage alloy powder (44). At least either one of the negative electrode (26) and the positive electrode (24) includes at least one selected from a group including zinc and zinc compounds as additive (38, 46). The content of the additive (38, 46) ranges from 0.2 to 1.5 part by weight per 100 parts by weight of hydrogen storage alloy in the negative electrode (26), and ranges from 0.3 to 1.5 part by weight per 100 parts by weight of the positive-electrode active material in the positive electrode (24). |
