PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of producing a powder for magnets, capable of obtaining a powder for magnets which is excellent in moldability with small variation in particle diameter.
SOLUTION : The method of producing a powder for magnets comprises a preparation step, a hydrogenation step, and a pulverization step. In the preparation step, a rare earth-iron-based alloy 10 having as a main phase a rare earth-iron-based compound containing a rare earth element and Fe is prepared. In the hydrogenation step, the rare earth-iron-based alloy 10 is hydrogenated by being heat-treated at a temperature not lower than a disproportionation temperature in an atmosphere containing hydrogen. In the pulverization step, a hydrogenated alloy 10h is mechanically pulverized.
