PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of recovering rare earth metals, including Dy, from a rare earth magnet by the molten metal extraction method.
SOLUTION : A method of recovering rare earth metals includes an extraction step of extracting rare earth metals from a magnet 10 containing rare earth metals into a mixture of molten liquid magnesium and calcium, a separation step of separating the mixture of liquid magnesium and calcium dissolved with the rare earth metals from the magnet with the rare earth metals extracted, a rare earth metal recovery step of recovering the rare earth metals from the mixture of liquid magnesium and calcium by evaporating magnesium and calcium and a magnesium calcium recovery step of recovering magnesium and calcium by condensing or solidifying the evaporated magnesium and calcium. In the extraction step, the mixture of magnesium and calcium is used as the molten metal.
