PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide sampling devices for concentrating microorganisms with concentration agents in the sampling device and methods for concentrating the microorganisms.
SOLUTION : (1) An unitary sampling device 10 comprises : (i) a first reservoir 20 having a first opening 22 and at least one resealable external opening 30; (ii) an element comprising a housing, and a movable feature residing within the housing, the movable feature comprising a second reservoir 35 having a second opening 27; and (iii) a second external opening, the movable feature having at least a first location in regard to the first reservoir and a second location in regard to the first reservoir. The methods for concentrating comprise : (2) a step of mixing a concentration agent and a sample comprising a microorganism in the unitary sampling device to provide a microorganism bound composition; and (3) a step of transferring the microorganism bound composition from the first location to the second location by locating the movable feature in the second location.
