PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for separating a desired rare earth element from a mixed solution containing plural kinds of rare earth elements in a short time and by a simple operation.
SOLUTION : The separation method comprises : (1) an adsorption process of contacting a mixed solution of rare earth elements with adsorption beads in a dispersion state at an adsorption pH, the mixed solution containing a desired element together with other rare earth elements, and the adsorption beads being prepared by impregnating a porous material with a rare earth element extraction agent; (2) a first separation process where, after the adsorption process, the adsorption beads are separated from an adsorption residual liquid; (3) an elution process eluting the desired element from the adsorption beads recovered by the first separation process at an elution pH value which is lower than the adsorption pH value; and (4) a second separation process where, after the elution process, the eluate is separated from the adsorption beads.
