A titanium slab comprising pure industrial titanium, being titanium for hot rolling that : has a re-melted/solidified layer at a depth of at least 1 mm, in the surface that becomes the hot rolling surface; contains at least one type of α-phase stabilizing element and neutral element in the re-melted/solidified layer; and has a total of at least 0.1% by mass but less than 2.0% by mass of the α-phase stabilizing element and neutral element. The surface that becomes the hot rolling surface in the titanium slab is melted together with a raw material containing at least one type of α-phase stabilizing element and neutral element, then solidified. As a result of the present invention, yield can be improved by reduction in heating time as a result of omitting a hot working step, reduction in cutting work associated with slab surface smoothing, and reduction in the amount of acid washing as a result of improved surface quality. |
