PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a molding die hardly generating crack or clouding in a molded glass, when molding especially lanthanum-based glass, and to provide a method for manufacturing the molding die. SOLUTION : This molding die 10 includes die base materials 21, 31 having forming surfaces 211, 311, and protection films 23, 33 provided on the forming surfaces 211, 311. The protection films 23, 33 contain Ir and Re in such contents that the mole ratio of the content of Re to the content of Ir is ≤2.5 times, and the molding die 10 is used for molding lanthanum-based glass.
