PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a permanent magnet which enables the development of a large coercive force in a Sm-(Co, Fe) based magnet having a composition of a high-iron concentration with good reproducibility.
SOLUTION : A permanent magnet comprises : a composition expressed by the compositional formula, RpFeqMrCusCo100-p-q-r-s (where R is a rare earth element, M is at least one element selected from Zr, Ti and Hf, 8.0≤p≤13.5, 25≤q≤40, 0.88≤r≤7.2, and 3.5≤s≤13.5 (atom%)); and a metallographic structure having a cell phase having a Th2Zn17 type crystal phase, a cell-wall phase, and a platelet phase which is present along a c-plane of the Th2Zn17 type crystal phase. The platelet phase has an average thickness in a range of 2.5-20 nm.
