简介 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide ceramic powders and methods of forming the ceramic powders capable of being used in coatings to allow components to survive in high temperatures environments, such as the hostile thermal environment of a gas turbine engine. SOLUTION : A ceramic powder includes powder particles each having an inner core formed of a first material and an outer region formed of a second material. The inner core has a lower thermal conductivity than the outer region, and the outer region is more erosion-resistant than the inner core. The inner core has a thermal conductivity of about 0.5 to 1.0 Wm-1k-1. The first material is a composition selected from the group consisting of Yb-La-Zr-based oxides, Yb-Sm-Zr-based oxides, and Yb-Zr-based oxides. The second material is a composition selected from the group consisting of Yb-Zr-based oxides, La-Zr-based oxides, Yb-La-Zr-based oxides, Yb-Sm-Zr-based oxides, Yb-mischmetal-Zr-based oxides, and mischmetal-Zr-based oxides.
