PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for treating exhaust gas in which the quantity of a supported noble metal used for the catalyst is reduced and besides, the function of the catalyst is improved compared with a conventional one. SOLUTION : The catalyst for treating exhaust gas is characterized in that the noble metal is supported, through tungsten oxide [WO3], on the surface of the support composed of the oxide of a rare earth element or a salt of a IIA group element in long period type periodic table and a heat resistant inorganic oxide.
