PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a motor appropriate particularly in a portable air compressor which is small-sized and lightweight and capable of performing quiet and energy saving operation in accordance with use situations and to which improvement of durability and reduction of cost are required, and a control method thereof.
SOLUTION : An outer rotor motor 100 is lightweight and compact as a motor in spite of large inertia and uses a low-priced rare-earth-saving magnet. A ratio of an outer diameter dimension DA of a stator core 111 of the motor 100 and a core length LG satisfies DA/LG>10, and a ratio of a length LM of a permanent magnet 122 in a magnet axis direction and the length LG satisfies LM/LG>1.4. Further, pressure of compressed air in an accumulation tank is detected, and before the pressure reaches peak pressure, a motor rotation speed is made lower than a highest rotation speed. Tank pressure in the case of reducing the rotation speed and the rotation speed to be reduced can be selected in accordance with use situations.
