PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rubber composition for studless tire treads having good processability and good maneuvering stability on snow and ice, and enabling to obtain abrasion resistance and fuel saving property in a good balance, and studless tires using the rubber composition for treads. SOLUTION : The rubber composition for treads to be used for studless tires includes butadiene rubber modified with a compound represented by formula (1) and butadiene rubber synthesized using a rare earth element-based catalyst (where in the formula, R1, R2and R3are the same or different, each denotes an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a silyloxy group, an acetal group, a carboxy group, a mercapto group, or a derivative thereof; R4and R5are the same or different, each denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or a cyclic ether group; and n denotes an integer).
