PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an activated carbon having high performances by using, as an activator, a specified chemical.
SOLUTION : The activated carbon of the present invention has an average mesopore size coinciding with the average diameter of crystallite sizes of an alkaline earth metal oxide provided as an activator or an alkaline earth metal oxide generated from an alkaline earth metal compound. The present invention also provides an activated carbon wherein the surface of an alkaline earth metal oxide provided as an activator or an alkaline earth metal oxide generated from an alkaline earth metal compound is coated with carbon particles whose specific surface areas are 400-2000 m2/g.
