PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide glass for a mixed glass laser system which uses aluminate or silicate laser glass in combination with phosphate laser glass and allows formation of a large aperture with a peak longer than 1059.7 nm.
SOLUTION : The invention relates to a Nd-doped, aluminate- or silicate-based laser glass having a peak emission wavelength longer than 1059.7 nm, an emission cross section (σem) greater than or equal to 1.5×10-20 cm2, and/or an emission bandwidth (Δλeff) greater than or equal to 25 nm, while maintaining properties that render the glass suitable for commercial use, such as a low glass transition temperature Tg less than 850°C and a low nonlinear index n2 less than 4.0.
