PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To efficiently advance burning of PM deposited on a particulate filter.
SOLUTION : A catalyst layer 22 disposed on an exhaust gas passage wall 21 of a particulate filter includes : a first catalyst material in which palladium (Pd) 24 is carried on Zr-containing complex oxide 23 containing zirconium (Zr) and rare earth element other than cerium (Ce); and a second catalyst material in which rhodium (Rh) 27 is contained in CeZr-containing complex oxide 25 containing Ce and Zr. The catalyst layer 22 disposed on an upstream side in the filter in an exhaust gas flow direction contains the first catalyst material whose content is greater than that of the second catalyst material. The catalyst layer 22 disposed on a downstream side contains the second catalyst material whose content is greater than that of the first catalyst material.
