Provided is a rare earth extracting agent which can extract a rare earth selectively even in a low pH range. The rare earth extracting agent according to the present invention comprises a diketone and a neutral extracting agent. The diketone is preferably 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone, the neutral extracting agent is preferably a compound having a phosphine oxide group, and the compound is preferably trioctylphosphine oxide. In order to extract a rare earth using the rare earth extracting agent according to the present invention, an acidic solution containing the rare earth is subjected to solvent extraction. When it is intended to collect various types of rare earth elements with high yield, it is preferred to adjust the pH value of the acidic solution to 0.2 to 2.6 inclusive. When it is intended to collect only scandium from various types of rare earth elements with high yield and with high purity, it is preferred to adjust the pH value of the acidic solution to 0.2 to 1.0 inclusive. |
