PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkali storage battery which is small in self discharge, and has a good capacity-keeping rate even if a high-temperature (85°C) shelf test is repeated on the alkali storage battery in the state of being charged.
SOLUTION : An alkali storage battery according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises : a nickel positive electrode which includes a nickel hydroxide serving as a primary positive electrode active material and zinc added thereto by 10-15 mass% to the mass of nickel in the positive electrode active material; a negative electrode of a hydrogen-absorbable alloy expressed by the general formula, LaxReyMg1-x-yNin-aMa (where Re represents at least one element selected from rare earth elements other than La and Y; and M represents at least one element selected from Al, Co, Mn and Zn), provided that x/y≥0.4; and an alkaline electrolyte with at least one compound selected from a tungsten compound, a molybdenum compound and a niobium compound added thereto by 0.5-2.0 mass% to the mass of the positive electrode active material.
