PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an infrared reflective material having excellent infrared reflective power as well as a chromatic color. SOLUTION : The infrared reflective material is a multiple oxide containing a rare earth element, copper element and, optionally, an alkaline earth metal element. A particle surface of the multiple oxide is coated with an inorganic compound and/or an organic compound if needed. The material can be produced, e.g., by mixing predetermined amounts of a rare earth compound, a copper compound and, optionally, an alkaline earth metal compound and firing the mixture. Since the resulting multiple oxide is powdery, it is compounded into a paint and a resin composition and can be used, e.g., to relieve a heat-island phenomenon by application to the roofs and outer walls of buildings, roads and sidewalks.
