PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a gas sensor element capable of detecting gas even under low-temperature environment, and a gas sensor.
SOLUTION : In a gas sensor element, at least one of a pair of electrodes has a structure in which at least an intermediate layer and an electrode layer are laminated in order from the side closer to a solid electrolyte body. The electrode layer has a perovskite type crystal structure and includes perovskite type oxide containing La element and rare earth doped ceria, the layer being formed to be porous having a plurality of pores therein. In the gas sensor element, the percentage of pores is 10 vol.% or more and 40 vol.% or less, the percentage of perovskite type oxide is 10 vol.% or more and 70 vol.% or less and the percentage of rare earth doped ceria is 12 vol.% or more and 70 vol.% or less.
