The invention provides a light emitting element in which a light emitting layer containing a light emitting substance and a layer containing bathophenanthroline are provided between a first electrode and a second electrode. The light emitting substance emits light when a voltage is applied so that the potential of the first electrode is higher than that of the second electrode.
