A dispersion compensator (100) is provided with a PCF (111), a pump LD (112), a fiber (113), and a multiplexing section (114). A plurality of pores surrounding the core in multiple layers are provided in the cladding of PCF (111), and a rare earth element is added into the core. The cladding has a removed portion removed along with the pores. The PCF can compensate the wavelength dispersion of the passing signal light. The fiber (113) and the multiplexing section (114) are connected to the removed portion of the PCF (111). The pumped light emitted from the pump LD (112) is incident into the PCF (111). |
