A loudspeaker comprises a frame 20, a movable planar diaphragm 10 posiÂtioned within the frame and connected thereto by a surround 30. A circumferential voice coil 40 is mounted on the diaphragm 10, and a plurality of magnets 50, preferably including the rare earth Neodymium, are circumÂferentially spaced apart around the frame 20. The provision of a plurality of magnets 50 causes an increased magnetic flux in comparison to standard loudspeaker systems provided with a single large diameter magnet, permitting the use of loudspeakers of significantly less depth than traditional loudspeakers. Diaphragm materials are also described. |
