Provided are : a rare earth permanent magnet enabling the prevention of a decrease in magnet characteristics; and a method for producing a rare earth permanent magnet. A magnet starting material is pulverized into a magnet powder, and a compound (12) is formed by mixing the pulverized magnet powder and a binder. Then, a green sheet (14) is prepared by molding the formed compound (12) into a sheet shape. Then, the molded green sheet (14) is subjected to magnetic field orientation, and furthermore is subjected to calcination processing by means of compressing the green sheet (14) to a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure and holding for a number of hours at 200-900°C in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. Subsequently, a permanent magnet (1) is produced by sintering the green sheet (14) at a firing temperature. |
