PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a negative electrode for a nickel hydrogen secondary battery, which has a long life even if it is subjected to continuous charging, and a nickel hydrogen secondary battery including the negative electrode.
SOLUTION : A nickel hydrogen secondary battery 2 comprises an electrode group 22 including a separator 28, a positive electrode 24 and a negative electrode 26. The negative electrode 26 includes : a negative electrode core body; and a negative electrode mixture held by the negative electrode core body. The negative electrode mixture contains a hydrogen-occluding alloy and a water-repellent agent. The hydrogen-occluding alloy has a composition represented by the general formula, Ln1-xMgxNiy-a-bAlaMb (where Ln is at least one element selected from a rare earth element, Ti and Zr, M represents at least one element selected from V, Nb, Ta and the like, and the subscripts a, b, x and y satisfy the relations represented by 0.05≤a≤0.30, 0≤b≤0.50, 0≤x<0.05 and 2.8≤y≤3.9 respectively), and has a structure of A2B7 type. The water-repellent agent contains perfluoroalkoxyalkane.
