PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a hydrogen storage alloy which achieves both high capacity of cells and improvement of cycle life characteristics.
SOLUTION : The hydrogen storage alloy is a rare earth-Mg-Ni-based hydrogen storage alloy, has crystal structure of Ce2Ni7 type, and also has a composition represented by the following general formula (I) RE1-x-ySmxMgyNia, wherein RE represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Sc, and Y; and subscripts x, y, and a each represents a number satisfying 0.74≤x≤0.97, 0.03≤y≤0.07, and 3.3≤a≤3.6.
