PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magnetic refrigeration material having refrigeration performance significantly higher than that in the prior art, in a range up to around 2 tesla where change in a magnetic field by a permanent magnet is considered possible.
SOLUTION : The magnetic refrigeration material includes a first phase having composition represented by formula La1-fREf(Fe1-a-b-c-d-eSiaCobXcMdZe)13 and a second phase containing at least one element selected from Fe, B, and Z, and having the total content of La and RE of 1 atom% or less, wherein the average crystal grain size of the first phase and the second phase is in the range of 0.01-1 μm. In the formula, RE represents an element other than La including at least one selected from rare-earth elements including Sc and Y; X represents an element including at least one of Ga and Al; M represents an element including at least one of Ge, Sn, B, and C; Z represents an element including at least one of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Zr; a is 0.03≤a≤0.17; b is 0.003≤b≤0.06; c is 0.02≤c≤0.10; d is 0≤d≤0.04; e is 0≤e≤0.04; and f is 0≤f≤0.50.
