PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescent lamp which suppresses generation of ineffective mercury which is not contributed to light emission.
SOLUTION : A fluorescent lamp comprises a glass tube and electrodes in both terminal portions of the glass tube and a phosphor layer is formed on an inner surface of the glass tube. In the fluorescent lamp, the phosphor layer comprises a first phosphor layer at the side of the glass tube and a second phosphor layer at the side of a discharge space. The first phosphor layer includes a phosphor layer with calcium-halophosphate phosphors as a main component, and the second phosphor layer includes a phosphor layer with rare-earth activated phosphors as a main component. The first phosphor layer at one terminal side of the glass tube is made thicker than the first phosphor layer at the other terminal side of the glass tube, and the second phosphor layer at the other terminal side of the glass tube is made thicker than the second phosphor layer at the one terminal side of the glass tube.
