PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical amplifier or the like provided with a structure for enabling efficient use of excitation light while avoiding complication of the device structure.
SOLUTION : In an optical amplifier, adjacent cores among a plurality of cores of an amplification MCF each including a rare earth element constitute a coupled core at an amplification wavelength, a coupling MCF is connected to the amplification MCF, an excitation light source is connected to the coupling MCF, and the excitation light source excites the rare earth element of the amplification MCF via the coupling MCF. This enables excitation light coupling between optically connected cores between the amplification MCF and the coupling MCF in which the coupling core is constituted.
