PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a double clad optical fiber which makes ultraviolet degradation of a core less likely to be caused and achieves excellent transmission characteristics.
SOLUTION : A double clad optical fiber 11 is used in a field of a fiber laser or a field of a fiber amplifier or the like. The double clad optical fiber 11 has a core 11a formed by glass that rare earth elements are added, a first clad 11b provided so as to cover the core 11a and formed by glass having the refraction index lower than that of the core 11a, and a second clad 11c provided so as to cover the first clad 11b and having the refraction index lower than that of the first clad 11b. A second clad material forming the second clad 11c is a thermosetting resin.
