PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth element-added cerium oxide powder containing an easily sinterable and isotropically shaped aluminum oxide, from which a high-density sintered compact is obtainable at a low firing temperature. SOLUTION : The rare earth element-added cerium oxide powder containing aluminum oxide is composed of aluminum oxide and a rare earth element-added cerium oxide, in which the content of aluminum oxide is 0.01 wt.% or more relative to the total of aluminum oxide and the rare earth element-added cerium oxide, preferably 0.01-10 wt.%.
