The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for recovering a rare earth element from an object to be processed containing at least the rare earth element and an iron group element, said method being able to be put into practical use as a simple, low-cost recycling system. A method of the present invention as a means for solving the above-mentioned problem is characterized by comprising at least a step wherein an object to be processed is oxidized, and then the processing environment is changed into one in the presence of carbon and the object is heat-treated at a temperature of 1, 150˚C or more, so that the rare earth element is separated in the form of oxide from the iron group element. |
