PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a cutting tool having high chipping resistance and wear resistance. SOLUTION : This cutting tool has a coating layer of Ti1-a-b-c-dA1aWbSicMd(CxN1-x)(M is one or more kinds selected among Nb, Mo, Ta, Hf and Y, and 0.45≤a≤0.55, 0.01≤b≤0.1, 0≤c≤0.05, 0.01≤d≤0.1 and 0≤x≤1) adhered and formed on a surface of a substrate made of silicon nitride sintered body. The silicon nitride sintered body contains 0.1 to 3 mass% of rare earth metal (RE) in RE2O3conversion quantity, 0 to 0.6 mass% of aluminum (Al) in Al2O3conversion quantity, 0 to 1 mass% of magnesium (Mg) in MgO conversion quantity and 0 to 2.5 mass% of oxygen.
