PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a light olefin by which propylene can be industrially obtained in high yields from a hydrocarbon raw material. SOLUTION : The light olefin production method is a method for producing a light olefin by catalytically converting a hydrocarbon raw material, wherein zeolite containing phosphorus and a rare earth element and containing at least one kind of the group 10-12 elements in the periodic table is used as a catalyst, and the particle diameter of the group 10-12 elements supported on the zeolite is 1 nm or smaller.
