PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an inexpensive carbon solid sliding material which has the required sliding property and mechanical impact resistance and has a better dimensional accuracy than those in conventional ones. SOLUTION : A carbon powder such as graphite, diamond, graphite cluster diamond, a fullerene, a carbon nanotube and carbon black is uniformly dispersed in an inorganic binder such as clays (e.g. montmorillonite), zeolite, diatomaceous earth, activated earth, silica and aluminum phosphate, and the obtained dispersion is shaped and fired in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
