PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a technique for making neutralized sludge valuable by : using the neutralized sludge generated in treating wastewater or others as a raw material without discarding the same; and generating the same as an adsorbent of a toxic heavy metal.
SOLUTION : The adsorbent comprises a sludge containing hydrotalcite generated by adding a magnesium compound to an acid wastewater containing aluminum, magnesium, iron and rare earths. The method for producing the adsorbent is characterized in that the magnesium compound is added to the acid wastewater containing aluminum and magnesium such that Al : Mg molar ratio becomes 1 : 1 to 1 : 6 preferably, the sludge having an aluminum content of 10 to 90 mass% and a magnesium content of 10 to 90 mass% is generated, and the sludge is recovered and dried.
