PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a red phosphor with excellent light emitting property and to provide a light emitting device. SOLUTION : The nitride phosphor activated with europium, absorbs near ultraviolet ray or blue ray, emits red ray, and is expressed by general formula, MwAlxSiyN((2/3)w+x+(4/3)y) : Eu2+, wherein each of w, x, y satisfies following formulas, 0.04≤w≤9, x=1, 0.056≤y≤18, M is at least a kind selected from a group comprising Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba, and containing at least one of rare earth elements, tetravalent elements, or trivalent elements as an additive element. The phosphor emits a deep red color with a reduced amount of europium which is an expensive rare earth element, because the phosphor is able to shift the peak wave length into a long wave length side.
