PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescent lamp in which saturation of brightness is hardly caused even when a tube current is increased, and a backlight unit.
SOLUTION : A fluorescent lamp of the present invention includes a glass bulb, electrodes disposed to face each other at the both ends of the glass bulb, and a phosphor coated on an inner surface side of the glass bulb, while mercury and rare gas are encapsulated at an inside of the glass bulb. The rare gas comprises argon gas and krypton gas, a ratio of the krypton gas is 10-40%, and the rare gas is encapsulated at a pressure of 80-100 Torr. A backlight unit of the present invention includes the fluorescent lamp as a light source.
