PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of manufacturing a rare earth magnet which makes it possible to simply and readily manufacture a rare earth magnet arranged so as to sufficiently suppress the occurrence of rust even in an environment such that moisture adheres to the magnet.
SOLUTION : A method of manufacturing a rare earth magnet according to a preferred embodiment comprises : a thermal treatment step for performing a thermal treatment on a complex which has a magnet elemental body containing a light rare earth element, Fe and B, and a coating film which is formed on the surface of the magnet elemental body and contains an oxide or hydroxide of M, where M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Si, Al, Zn, Mn, Ge, Sn, Bi, Pb, Ga, Cu, Ni, and Co, thereby forming, on the surface of the magnet elemental body, a protection layer having an alloy containing a light rare earth element, Fe and M.
