PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a solid polymer fuel cell which is practical, high in battery performance, superior in durability and less in deterioration of an electrode catalyst.
SOLUTION : A solid polymer fuel cell comprises : a membrane electrode assembly in which an electrode is joined to both faces of an electrolyte membrane; and a hardly soluble inorganic anion exchanger which is added to the electrolyte membrane and/or the electrode, and does not contain Fe substantially. In this case, the hardly soluble inorganic anion exchanger is preferably hydroxide, hydrated hydroxide, water-containing oxide, oxy hydroxide, or oxy oxide containing any one or more of an element selected from a group consisting of rare earth element, transition metal element, and alkaline earth metal element.
