PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an organic/metal hybrid polymer whose fluorescence can be lost and restored by simple treatments.
SOLUTION : The organic/metal hybrid polymer is represented by formula 1, wherein L is an ion of a rare earth metal such as Eu; X is a spacer; and at least one of A1 and A2 and at least one of A3 and A4 are carboxyl. The polymer substantially loses its fluorescence upon exposure to an atmosphere of HCl gas or the like and the fluorescence is restored by exposing the polymer to a triethylamine atmosphere or the like. This cycle can be repeated many times.
