PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a photoelectric conversion element suitable for a solar battery or the like comprised of compound semiconductor, which can reduce the usage of rare metal such as In, and can obtain high photoelectric conversion efficiency without depending on a vacuum process expensive in manufacturing cost.
SOLUTION : A photoelectric conversion element includes a light absorbing layer made of a compound containing at least copper, zinc and sulfur. The compound containing copper, zinc and sulfur preferably has a composition of CuxZnySz(x=2; y=1.5 to 2.5; z=2.5 to 3.5; and x+y+z=7).
