Provided is a cathode material which comprises a tungsten alloy that does not contain the radioactive element thorium and which is a substitute material for cathode materials comprising W-ThO2 alloys. By finely dispersing rare earth oxide particles and tungsten carbide in a tungsten cathode material that is used as a discharge cathode material used for TIG, plasma spraying, plasma cutting, electrical discharge machining, electrical discharge lamps and the like, it is possible to facilitate reduction and dispersion of the rare earth oxide, ensure supply of the rare earth element to the surface of the cathode and improve electrical discharge characteristics. |
