PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an economical electrode material for a spark plug, which is excellent in oxidation resistance and spark abrasion resistance, has an improved hot workability and copes with the increased burden on an internal combustion engine and increased performance thereof.
SOLUTION : The electrode material for a spark plug contains 0.3 to 3.0 mass% of Si, 0.01 to 0.3 mass% of one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Y and rare earth elements, not more than 0.5 mass% of Ti and not more than 1.2 mass% of Fe and further contains one or both of not more than 0.20 mass% of Ca and not more than 0.08 mass% of Mg. In a total content of C, Mn, Cr, Al, N and S, C is not more than 0.1 mass%, Mn is less than 0.5 mass%, Cr is less than 0.5 mass%, Al is not more than 0.3 mass%, N is not more than 0.05 mass%, and S is not more than 0.03 mass%, and the main component of the remainder is Ni.
