PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth-added optical fiber of a low loss and a method for producing the optical fiber.
SOLUTION : During a soot deposition process, the amount of GeCl4 to be supplied is increased from the start of soot deposition while soot is deposited. As a result, the concentration of Ge dope is raised from the interface between a core and a clad toward the center of the core, becomes approximately constant from the raised position toward the center of the core, rises further from there toward the center of the core, and becomes maximum at the center of the core in a Ge doping profile. The optical fiber having the doping profile is produced.
