PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescent substance using excitation light expanded from an ultraviolet region to a visual light region to enable an easily available LED to be used as an excitation light source, and emitting a wide range light of from yellow to red. SOLUTION : The fluorescent substance contains gallium oxide as a parent component and europium as an activator, and further contains one or more kinds of oxides and oxysulfides of rare earth elements, one or more kinds of oxides and sulfides of alkaline earth metals, and one or more kinds of sulfur and sulfur compounds.
