PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To easily degrade hard-to-degrade nitrate nitrogen without contaminating an environment and without using electricity or heat, and to degrade a nitrate solution, especially waste water containing the nitrate nitrogen of a high concentration, to nitrogen in a shorter time to remove it by using a magnetic material containing a rare earth component with reducibility stronger than iron, the magnetic material containing cobalt with a catalyst action further preferably, as an alloy which is the magnetic material. SOLUTION : In the reduction method of the nitrate solution, a solution mixture containing the nitrate nitrogen and the magnetic material are mixed and made to react and the nitrate nitrogen is reduced to the nitrogen.
